History of Generic Transmission
Generic Transmission opened in 1988 with two bays
and one hydraulic lift. Our reputation for honesty and integrity
in the transmission repair and maintenance business gained us a steady
following. Over the years we have become probably the best known,
locally owned transmission repair shop, in the Columbus, Georgia,
Phenix City, Alabama area.
In 2002 Generic Transmission won a coveted “Torch Award” from the
Better Business Bureau in recognition of ethics in the marketplace.
By 2004, our continued success made it necessary to build a much
larger facility at 3835 Highway 80 West, in the Ladonia district.
The Better Business Bureau awarded Generic Transmission an A-Plus
rating in 2009.
Founder Jimmy Wood served in Viet Nam with the Marine Corps. He
is a lung-cancer survivor and practices his Christian beliefs in
his personal life as well as in his business.
